What we teach
OC preparation runs in Years 3 to 4. Selective preparation runs in Years 5 to 6 and adds writing to the same reading and reasoning work.
-
Reading, mathematical reasoning and thinking skills, with timed accuracy, careful review and targeted reattempts. Each week pairs a timed practice session with a separate review session where errors are worked through.
-
Reading, mathematical reasoning, thinking skills and writing, with timed practice, writing feedback and exam-strategy review. Follow-up work comes from what the student is still getting wrong that week.

BEAM prepares students through structured practice and feedback. It does not guarantee OC or Selective placement, since those decisions are made outside BEAM. The program focuses on practice, feedback and review habits.
Weekly rhythm
Timed practice
Students complete OC or Selective style work under clear time conditions, so accuracy under pressure gets practised properly.
Review and reattempt
The tutor checks errors, explains the reasoning and asks the student to try the difficult parts again.
Targeted homework
Follow-up work comes from the student's main practice priorities that week, not from a fixed weekly sheet.
Progress tracking
The next lesson builds on what has improved and what still needs another pass, so priorities stay visible.
